Some Consequences Can’t Be Undone

All choices have consequences.

Sometimes they’re easy to let go. Sometimes they’re hard to survive.

When I think about the choices not made, and all the consequences I’ve avoided, there’s one moment that always pops into my head. It was a small encounter while I was traveling. Over and done with in barely three minutes.

A man who seemed rather nice offered to show me around. My horror-loving brain acknowledged four things at once. He was twice my size, he was blocking my exit, he knew I was a tourist (my accent gave it away), and he had just invited me to possibly the only isolated place in the entire city.

I didn’t go.

The consequence I now suffer is an unanswerable question—did I miss out on a fun night, or a shallow grave?

Probably the first one, but a girl can never be too careful in this mysterious world.

In this volume, we offer you tales of people who suffered terrible consequences for their insignificant choices. A woman must choose whether to heed the signs of her approaching death. An overnight guard finds himself visited by the unknown and must decide whether to stay on the job or quit. A man tries to take and is forced to give. And a teenager can get everything she wants if she’s willing to pay the price.

Every choice has consequences.

Some benign. Some terrifying.

Here’s hoping you choose wisely.
