It was through a string of consequences that I learned that.
As the youngest sibling and the only girl, I couldn’t do everything my brothers could. The bloodiest example I can remember was when we all decided to roller-skate downhill. An important thing to note for this story is that, to this day, I can’t roller-skate. I got about halfway down on the wheels and went the rest of the distance on my knees.
The consequence of my foolish choice that day was a long walk home with a constant stream of blood turning my knees red.
But the characters of Volume 9 face consequences far more horrific. In Gambling, a man couldn’t possibly have anticipated the result of accepting a bet to enter a haunted house. Attempts to reassure could result in a heavy price in Shadow Creature. And in Born Tonight, a man’s decision to choose the greater good has ramifications for both him and his wife.
All choices have consequences—some are just deadlier than others.
