Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie was New Orleans’ answer to Countess Báthory—a high society woman who abused her power and position to inflict unspeakable horrors.
Of all the stories I have heard of her, one in particular has always stuck out to me.
One of the short-term owners of her murder mansion boasted about their encounter with the ghost of LaLaurie. He had ordered a portrait of her and hung it proudly in the living room, which had apparently summoned her spirit, creating a violent haunting that only abated once they removed the painting.
Okay, my thoughts? “Um, what about the victims?”
Our protagonists of Volume 10 also encounter some unexpected consequences at the hands of artwork. Rumors of a curse are tested in Pictures on the Wall.
